County Matches

Two county matches were held at the club on Saturday 21st January. Warwickshire's Under 180 team featuring several Olton players beat Nottinghamshire in the Midland Final. The Under 140 side lost in their Midland section match against Leicestershire.

Phil Holt Simultaneous

Phil Holt gave a simultaneous display to the club on Tuesday 2nd August. Ten players took part and Phil scored 9 wins, losing just one game. Richard Reynolds was the only winner and there were losses for Kim Gilbert & John Asbury (Shirley), Tom Evans (Mutual), Peter Singh, John Clulee, Bill Yeomans, Dave Stockwin and Steve Chadaway. Robert Reynolds won material and looked set to win, but was checkmated in the later stages.

Lightning Tournament

The club held a 10-second tournament on Tuesday 26th July. Sixteen players from various clubs took part in a six-round Swiss Tournament. Robert Reynolds scored an impressive 5½ out of 6 to finish first. Mark Cundy was second on five points.

Summer Tournament

The Open section was shared by Mark Cundy and Richard Smith on 5½/7. Dave Stockwin won the Major section with 5 points. Tom Evans won the Minor section with 4 points. Results are posted here...

League & Cup Double

Olton A have won the Leamington League title and the Open Cup Competition.

Division 4 Individual

John Llewelyn has won the Division 4 Individual trophy.

BDCL Lightning Tournament

This event took place at Olton's venue on Tuesday 15th March. Teams of 4 players competed in 3 graded sections at the rate of 10 seconds per move. There were 15 teams in total, with 4 playing in the double-round top section, 6 in section B and 5 in section C.

Olton A were second behind South Birmingham A by quite a margin. Olton B were third in Section B, the points mainly coming from Trevor Holt (5/5) and Karol Grzywaczewski (3½/5). Olton C were stone last, but had an enjoyable night anyway. Trevor Holt won the individual prize. The full results can be found here...

Friendly Match

Olton played a 7-board friendly match against Birmingham University on Tuesday 31st January, who are looking to enter the League next season.
