Phil Holt Simultaneous
Phil Holt gave a simultaneous display on Tuesday 26th August, where he won 8 games, drew 3 and lost none.
Leamington League Jamboree
Olton entered a team in the Leamington Jamboree and won the top section. Phil Holt was on board one and won four out of 4 and the section individual. Paul Kelly was board 2 and he won 3 out of 4, as well as joint lower section individual.

Olton v South Birmingham 2014
Phil Holt won early on board 1, but Rob Wallman lost on four. Richard Reynolds lost on five after missing a blunder by David Dunn. Tom Evans was in difficulty early on.
Mark Cundy won on board 3, but Richard Smith lost on two. Jim Gillespie and Jeff Elson also drew for Olton.

Shirley & Wythall v Olton 2014
The Olton club hosted Shirley in the annual friendly match on Tuesday 12th August. With the home side missing the top three players, it was always going to be a tough night. And so it proved as the top boards mostly struggled. Mark Cundy on board one created enough threats on the King's side with Queen and Rook to earn a draw, but the next 4 all lost. Trevor Holt won on six and Tom Evans snr won a long game (for him) on board 9. Bram Garner drew on tem and Paul Kelly somehow rescued a win on bottom board.

Club Tournament
Paul Kelly beat Tom Evans in a tense finish in the Club Minor Championship. Richard Reynolds beat Richard Smith in both games in the Open section. A new tournament will start un September based on the same format.
Summer Tournament
The club Summer Tournament started on Tuesday 27th May. In round 1, Paul Kelly did well to draw with Ken Allen. Bram Garner also played well and managed a draw against Garry Evans. The most spectacular game in the round saw Trevor Holt chase Mark Cundy's King across the board, sacrifice material and trap the King. In round 2, Thomas Evans beat Jim Gillespie and Robert Reynolds was held to a draw by Paul Kelly. Gary Hope went to two points, with a win against Trevor Holt. In round 3, Thomas Evans won again, this time against Gary Hope. Also, on three points was Richard Reynolds, with a win against Garry Evans. Ken Allen drew with Mike Walker.
Round 4 saw Richard Reynolds take the lead on 4/4 from Richard Smith half a point behind. A spectacular defeat of Mark Cundy put Richard in clear second. Ken Allen and Gary Hope both won to join Thomas Evans on 3 points. Richard Smith took the lead in round 5 by beating Richard Reynolds. His lead was unassailable and a win and a draw were enough to win. Trevor Holt won the Major section on 4½. Richard Evans and Paul Kelly finished level on 4 points in the Minor section, with Richard winning on tie-break.

Division 2 2nd place play-off
The Division 2 team have been involved in a four-way play-off for second place. The team finished in third place.
Leamington Lightning Tournament
Phil Holt won the Annual LDCL 5-minute tournament at Solihull this week. There was a strong field of 31 players from various clubs and it required a play-off to decide the winner. Phil started well, dropping just half a point in the first six rounds. However, a draw with Alan Lloyd in round 7 saw him draw level with Oliva Smith of Solihull. Both players won their last two games to finish on 8/9 and Phil had to win another game to decide the championship.
Alan finished with 6 points and both Robert Reynolds and Karol Grzywaczewski scored 5 points. Karol was in a four way play-off for the under 140 title, but lost in the Armageddon semi-final to Dennis Horsley of Solihull. Rob Wallman finished with 4/9 and Jim Gillespie scored 3 points.
County Matches
A double-header of county matches took place at the club on Saturday 5th October. In the Minor Counties Midland Championship, Warwickshire beat Worcestershire 8½-7½ in a 5-hour match. The Under-120 match between the two counties was won by Warwickshire 6-5, with one double default.
Simultaneous Display by Phil Holt
Phil Holt gave a simultaneous display to club members on Tuesday 30th July. Sixteen players took part and all gave a good account of themselves. One or two were in favourable positions, but in the end, Phil only conceded three draws and no losses.
Tom Evans went a Rook down until Phil blundered it back. The game looked fairly level, but Phil forced a way through and won in the end. The draws came from Robert Reynolds, Jim Gillespie and Trevor Holt. Trevor was material up in a complicated position, but both players were tired and the last game of the night was agreed drawn.
Lightning Tournament
A club Lightning (Buzzer) Tournament was held on Tuesday 16th July. Robert Reynolds was the winner on 6 out of 6. Richard Liszewki was second on 4½.
Summer Tournament
