Richard Liszewski on board 4 did well to reach a draw after a long drawn-out game. Trevor Holt had a good win on bottom board and Robert Reynolds drew on 5, long after no other result seemed possible

Alan Lloyd won on top board, while Mark Cundy lost on two. Richard Liszewski also lost on board 3 and Richard Reynolds drew on board 4. Robert Reynolds should have won on board 5 but lost in the ending and Trevor Holt lost on bottom board.

Alan Lloyd won on board 1 and Mark Cundy also won on two. Richard Liszewsi lost on board 3 and Mike Hollier lost on four. Robert Reynolds lost on board 5 and Richard Reynolds went down to the wire to hold for a draw a pawn down in the ending.
Lichfield v Olton
Mark Cundy drew quickly in an exciting game on board 2. Roger Threlfall drew on board 6 and Robert Reynolds lost on five. Richard Reynolds lost on board 4, after a poor opening, things looked better, but the opponenn's attack was too strong. Richard Liszewski on three turned down several draws and eventually agreed one. Alan Lloyd on top board played on to the end and won well.
Olton v South Birmingham C
Mark Cundy lost early on board 2. Trevor Holt on bottom board lost control of the centre, after a good start and then material was lost. Robert Reynolds on board 4 probed on both sides, but eventually agreed a draw. Richard Liszewski lost on board 3, while Alan Lloyd on board 1 lost despite having the advantage. Richard Reynolds on board 4 got over some early difficulties to lauch an attack on the Opponent's King, which might have effective with more time to spare, but the game was drawn.
Redditch v Olton
Alan Lloyd won on top board and Marck cundy drew on board 2. But the points stopped there, as Richard Liszewski on board 3 defended a difficult position with a passed pawn on the sixth. The flanks were also under attack and the game was lost. Richard Reynolds on board 4 losta pawn in order to exchange the attacking pieces and also had a difficult ending. A draw might have been possible and an opposite Bishop ending was a consideration, but all tries were unable to stop the inevititable. Robert Reynolds lost on board 5 aand Trevor Holt also lost on six after a good start.
Olton v Shirley
Mark Cundy drew early on board 2 and Trevor Holt drew on six after going into a Rook and Pawns ending a sickly pawn up. Richard Reynolds on board 5 drew after fending off an attack on the c file and offering some counterplay. Robert Reynolds on board 4 was not able to make anything of an attack on the Queen's side and his King was trapped from behind. Richard Liszewski on three was cut off from a passed pawn on the KR file and tried to force repetition, but was fended off and lost. Alan Lloyd on top board might have earned at least a draw, but blundered and lost.
Central Birmingham v Olton
Alan Lloyd lost on board 1, but had some chances. Mark Cundy also lost on two and Richard Liszewski lost on board three. Trevor Holt had a good win on bottom board, but Robert Reynolds lost on five. Richard Reynolds on board 4 held off early pressure in the centre and used a central pawn to restrict the opponent's options. The game seemed to swing in favour when the opponent's attack slowed and doubled Rooks were placed on the c file. But with time running short, the opposing Queen and Bishop had good control of the board and the game was lost.
Olton v Solihull
Alan Lloyd started well on board 1, but went on to lose. Mark Cundy was also beaten on board 2, but Richard Liszewski scored a well-earned drew on three. Trevor Holt had an early scare on board 6, but worked around the traps to score an easy win. The team were giving points away to a higher graded side. Trevor Holt drew on bottom board and Robert Reynolds also drew on board 5. Mark Cundy lost on board 2 and Alan Lloyd managed to draw on top board. Richard Reynolds on four had a fighting chance all the way through, despite the opponent getting Knights into the sixth rank and threatening to expose the Queen's Flank. The position may well have been drawn, but the time pressure showed, ending with a Queen blunder. Richard Liszewski also got down to the time scramble in a complicated position on board 3, but held out for a draw.
